THINGS YOU

THINGS YOU CAN TOUCH
This show was inspired by the question "what if there was an art show where you could touch all the work?" As someone who works as both a designer and a photographer, I often find myself finding ways to blend the two fields into one. I love the interactivity and storytelling that design can offer. With photography, I love making captivating images that preserve the world around me through my own perspective.
Featuring collaged photographs and textured paintings, this show sought to erase the barrier between art and audience that is typical of gallery spaces. Every piece was created with the explicit idea that the audience should touch them. Rather than prioritizing sight, this show instead prioritized feeling as a way to fully understand the art on display.
This project was shown at Slice of Life as the opening show to their 2024 gallery year.

THE
IDEA
To create an art show focused on interactivity. Every piece in the show had to be one people were encouraged to touch. The pieces themselves (as well as the branding in the gallery) had to directly communicate that it was not only okay to touch the art, it was the point of the whole show!
Ultimately, I wanted to answer one question: what would a fashion campaign look like if it were composed of interactive images?
This involved looking into:
The inherit interactive qualities of the garments featured
How the finalized images themselves could be made interactive and therefore more compelling

Prior to getting laser eye surgery, I had terrible vision made worse by my inability to have a consistent prescription for any length of time. I love art and visual mediums but sight was often not enough to easily allow me to interact with art.
I wanted to create an exhibition where the primary sense was one other than sight. An exhibition where someone who was blind or visually impaired could enjoy everything just as much as a sighted person. Additionally, I wanted to explore ways in which art and design could overlap.
