HARAJUKU

Created through an Exhibition Design class, this project focused on designing a fictional pop-up store for the iconic Vancouver shoe brand Fluevog. As a longtime fan, I was excited to focus on their maximalist, mixed-media style while also designing materials in a language unfamiliar to me (Japanese).

This project is set in the Tokyo neighbourhood of Harajuku, a place well known for its extreme, colourful, texture-heavy fashion. I was selected for this project due to my knowledge of the brand and experience in fashion campaigns.

SCOPE

SCOPE

SCOPE

To create assets that reflected Fluevog's branding, style, and products while also remaining unique enough to function as a specialty pop-up.

The primary target was new customers who were already located in or near the Harajuku neighbourhood. Our secondary target was existing Fluevog-ians who would already be familiar with the brand.

Ultimately, I wanted to answer one question: what would a fashion campaign look like if it were composed of interactive images?

This involved looking into:

  • The inherit interactive qualities of the garments featured

  • How the finalized images themselves could be made interactive and therefore more compelling

Developing the materials in Japanese was a fun challenge. Because Fluevog primarily uses Bodoni Bauer, I had to pivot to a font that accommodated Japanese characters while still maintaining the bold, serif look. Since the purpose of this pop-up was to target people already present in Tokyo, materials were created primarily in Japanese.

The idea behind placing Japanese at the forefront of the designs was to communicate exactly what makes this pop-up so special. Big fans of the brand would already travel around the world to attend, making the goal to appeal to those unfamiliar with Fluevog.

Seeing as there is no location in Asia, this would be Fluevog's first step into not only Harajuku but Asia as a whole!
